Castlederg’s 81-year-old amazing Marathon man, Pat O’Loughlin, showed that age is but a number after completing his 38th Dublin Marathon on Sunday.
While ill-health threatened Pat’s participation in the marathon, the resilient runner defied the odds and completed the 26.2 mile stretch in a respectable 8 hours, 27 minutes and 43 seconds, all while raising around £3,000 for the MS Society.
Currently enjoying a well-earned rest after an arduous day, Pat says he couldn’t have completed the impressive feat without the support of his committed team, and a little help from the local community.
“I am very happy to have completed the marathon, although I can tell you one thing it wasn’t easy,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without my team, consisting of my son Ciaran, his partner Jenny McMenamin and her daughter Rachel. They stuck with me at my pace throughout the whole thing and kept me topped up with water and jelly babies!"
