One small step for Greysteel

PROGRESS has been made in setting up a Community Watch group in Greysteel, according to Sinn Fein Councillor Dermott Nicholl.

A meeting took place in Greysteel Community Centre last Monday, November 19.

The aim of the meeting was to establish a community watch scheme in the Greysteel and surrounding areas.

Councillor Nicholl told the Northern Constitution he has been working on this project for some time and is delighted to get the the scheme kickstarted.

With a number of recent break ins and issues with anti-social behaviour in the area members of the community joined the PSNI in launching the Community Watch scheme.

Councillor Nicholl said: “Through the Community Watch scheme we hope to empower people to take ownership of the community.

“We hope to encourage shared leadership to create a better community.

“The launch was very sucessful and I am very happy we have made progress - but this is just one small step in a long journey to create a safe and happy community.

“There are a lot of residents interested in the project and many are keen and eager to get involved.”
