Charity auction to revitalise Ballykelly community hall

ST Finloughs Hall Committee in Ballykelly are seeking more donations to their Big Auction on March 23 2019, all proceeds of which are going to the refurbishment of the community hall.

The Ballykelly group are, so far, delighted by the response of the community in support of the cause, but are requesting further donations.

There is an array of interesting, good quality items for auction ranging from exercise equipment, children’s toys, garden furniture, new tools and household furniture to a load of turf, a sheep, signed boxing gloves by Carl Frampton, an authentic signed photo by Valentino Rossi and two cars donated by local businesses, Bobby Mullan and James O’ Hara and a Threshing Mill, donated by Joe Mc Cullagh, Sperrin Vintage Club.

The St Finloughs hall was opened in 1986 and was a vital cross community hub, catering for young and old.

It provided day care facilities for the disabled, Mother and Toddlers groups, big Christmas Bazaars but it was known far and wide for its Big Sunday Bingo.

People came from all local parishes for the big bingo and it was standing room only.

However, the hall has not been modernised since the 1980s and as a result its use has diminished leaving a huge gap for the local community.

Urgent repairs and refurbishments are needed for the kitchen, toilets, heating and sound system, and general repairs to bring it up to todays standards of safety and comfort and improved disability access.

In September 2018 a new committee was formed and held its first fundraising event in December which raised over £5000 from a Coffee Morning.

It was evident from that event that the committee had the backing and support of the local community as they came out in droves to support it.

It was the largest social event held in the hall for almost 30years.

Some refurbishment has already begun, and the hall is already seeing an uptake in social events.

The committee are running a quarterly draw at present, the first draw will take place at the Big Auction on March 23.

Tickets are £10 per quarter with a chance to win £1500 there are 1000 tickets being sold.

The Committee would like to thank everyone who sold tickets for the Quarterly Draw or contributed to the Auction in any way.

The support has been overwhelming.

We are very grateful to Gerard McAfee from McAfee Auctions who is giving his services free on the day and has been an immense help in organising the event.

Viewing starts at 10am with the auction at 12 noon.

There will be lunch and refreshments available so come along and enjoy a great family day.

Viewing will also take place on Thursday March 21 from 7-9 pm and Friday March 22 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

Donations to the auction would be greatly appreciated.
