The first of two public consultation events on a draft Remediation Strategy for Mobuoy is taking place today in Derry-Londonderry.

The drop-in event at Eglinton Community Centre will be open from 12pm until 7pm on Wednesday, offering the public the opportunity to speak directly to experts working on the remediation project from Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and its Integrated Consultancy Team TetraTech.

Joining teams from across the NIEA, including its Drinking Water Inspectorate, will be representatives from other organisations including Northern Ireland Water, the Public Health Agency (PHA), Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads, Lough’s Agency, and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI).

The second public consultation event will take place next Wednesday 10 September at the Millennium Forum between 12pm and 7pm.

The consultation provides an important opportunity for officials to present and seek views on approaches designed to address the contamination issues at the Mobuoy site to support the protection of the environment and public health.

These are set out in a draft Remediation Strategy which has been developed based on the best balance of environmental, social, and economic factors.

A detailed risk assessment, drawing on extensive site investigations with over seven years of monitoring, provides a robust scientific basis for a detailed appraisal of a range of remediation options, and subsequently the development of the draft Remediation Strategy.

The consultation provides an opportunity for people to give their views on the draft Remediation Strategy for the Mobuoy site.

You get more information on the Mobuoy Remediation Project and respond to the public consultation on the draft Remediation Strategy before the deadline on Thursday 2 October 2025 by visiting the DAERA website: https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/consultations/consultation-draft-remediation-strategy-mobuoy-site
