This week's Northern Constitution is out now with a packed 64-page paper, including a special 16 page staycation supplement!
Leading the front page is news that Causeway Coast and Glens Councillors have voted against seeking judicial review of a Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) ruling on the controversial Magheramore windfarm proposal.
In July the PAC overturned the council's decision to reject Renewable Energy Systems’ application to build six 150m turbines at Magheramore Road. A month later councillors agreed to engage a barrister to review the PAC ruling and determine whether a High Court challenge was feasible. That advice was delivered to planning committee members at a behind-closed-doors meeting earlier this month. Full story on page 3.
There has also been a “substantial number” of fish killed in a pollution incident on the Ballykelly River. The Loughs Agency said 422 fish – mostly trout, were found dead along a 500m stretch of water downstream from the village.
“A thorough investigation into the incident was carried out in collaboration with NIEA’s Water Management Unit,” said a spokesperson. No direct pollution source was identified. However, both agencies suspect that this fish kill may have been caused by a chemical agent, possibly a cleaning substance." Full story on the front page.
